Usually I'm very good with tech, but all this with IPs, DHCP, subnets, WAN, and LAN has got me beat. I live out in the countryside, so fiber is out of the question and my only way of getting decent broadband speeds is via 4G LTE router. Just using the ISP router for wifi is obviously not acceptable, so I've set up Unifi everywhere.
Luckily the entire house is wired with cat 6, so putting up APs around the house was a breeze. My problem is that I get double NAT and I'm unable to adobt the Ubiquiti USG. For online gaming, I can't work with double NAT. And I want the USG to work, as I want to manage everything through the Unifi controller and I want to be able to use DPI. My setup right now, working at decent speeds but with double NAT and no USG:.
Huawei B315 4G LTE router (supplied by ISP, does not have bridge mode). Unifi Switch 24 PoE+ 250W. Unifi Cloud Controller. 3 Unifi AP AC Pro (might be overkill, but the house is old and with multiple floors and thick walls, so better safe than sorry). Most of my devices on ethernet (TVs, Xbox, Sonos etc,) I also have a Zyxel LTE3301 4G/LTE router that supposedly supports bridge mode. It works perfectly fine with my ISP sim card, however I’ve had no luck integrating it with my Unifi setup and the USG.
My main problem is adaptation of the USG and getting a connection from the LTE router when put in bridge mode. I love the Unifi Controller, but I have no idea what settings need to be changed in order to adopt the USG, namely IPs and such.
What I’ve tried so far:. My ISP has a guide to setting up your own router, however this might only apply to DSL broadband. The gist of it: Deactivate UPnP on the Huawei Router and enter IP 192.168.2.1 and IP ranges 192.168.2.10 - 192.168.2.99 in my own router aka the Unifi Controller. Does not work. Using my own Zyxel router in bridge mode, deactivate DHCP and plug straight in to the USG.
Does not work either. I tinkered with firewall, DMZ etc. On both routers, but nothing seems to work.
So now I come to you, Redditors, hoping you can help ? How do I get this working? Edit: setup list. Then all your devices will be on same subnet of the unifi router. Be aware to shutdown your cloudkey from the settings tab, not from outlet straight.

That might dammage your database. If such a case, shutdown it, remove the sd card, booted it, put the sd card in, reboot again. Plug in the LTE modem. Then plug the cat5 from the modem lan to the USG wan1.
Then power up the usg. Then connect the switch to LAN1 and power up the switch. Plug the cloud key into that.
At this point you can also plug/power your WAPs. Then make sure you adopt the cloud key. I believe you normally do this by using chrome and logging into your unifi.ubnt.com account having the unifi discovery tool installed. There is a switch at the top that says discover cloud key.
Adopt that first. Then it should run you through the first time setup wizard to adopt everything else including the controller. If the usg is handing out the IPs you should see it available for adoption. You can run into trouble if you let the LTE modem hand out IPs and the usg lan is in a different subnet. Just make sure the USG is what gave your controller and switch etc their IP.
Far more likely it was a circumstance that didn’t detect double NAT than one where it didn’t exist. If you install HE.net’s Network Tools app, and check Interface Information, almost certain you’ll see CGN or RFC 1918 on pdpip0. Last time I saw a public IPv4 IP on a cell phone was before iPhones existed. Way too few IPs and too many phones for that now.
Public IPv6 is another matter, since there’s no scarcity. I have RFC 1918 v4 and public v6 on my AT&T iPhone right now, same as the past couple years roughly. Prior to that, private v4 with no v6. Last I recall a public v4 IP on my phone it was a Palm Treo circa 2005.
In Sierra the 'Anywhere' button was removed. To get the Discovery Tool working: 1) Close System Preferences 2) Copy this command into Terminal. You will be asked for your admin password sudo spctl -master-disable 3) Unlock System Preferences Security or check if the Anywhere button is selected.
4) Start UBNT Discovery Tool for Mac OS 5) If you want to maintain the security of the Gatekeeper as Apple dsigned it, copy this command into Terminal sudo spctl -master-enable Otherwise just select the option you want. Ask Ubiquiti to please register the utility with Apple. It's been four years.
I have a problem that has me stumped. I have a Ubuntu Media Server (OS Version 14.04.1) running Samba 4.1.6. I have a Win 10 laptop (upgraded in August from 8.1) and Win 10 desktop (upgraded Jan 11th from Windows 7). The laptop doesn't (or very rarely) discovers the Samba shares. Windows sees the two other Windows PC's under the Network section. It doesn't seen to recognize the printer attached to the server.
Print jobs seem to disappear into nowhere even though the printer is 'there' under devices. It is also seen in Belarc Advisor.
It does, however, always recognize the mapped drives of the 3 individual Samba shares on the server. It also discovers the Plex Media Server I have installed. It is under the Media Devices Section in Network. The desktop under both Win 7 and 10 discovers both the Network shares and the samba shares (and the network printer) connected to it as well as the Plex Media Server. I've attempted to match setting for setting from the desktop to the laptop (Advanced Sharing Options), but that hasn't solved the problem. Because it works on one system and not the other, I don't see where my Samba configuration is the problem. Anyone have any ideas?
Tried one method - it didn't work. Then ran across this ongoing discussion at Microsoft: Used one of these - and viola! It works (for now) until the boys in Redmond hose it up again.I wanted to blame M$ for it as well however after some research I found several servers were claiming to be Master Browsers. I logged on to those servers (yes Linux boxes) and set local master = no in the global confs and the rest of my network browse function worked.
The program I used to discover this was Scottie's LANscanner v1.63. You can run the tool and check your net.
